Start Meeting 2010

On Feb 10th, the annual start meeting was held in Brussels. Due to snowy weather conditions, we could not start at 09.30 Hr. Only a handful shooters was present at 0930 Hr. February 10th will be remembered as the day with the longest traffic jam in the Belgian history, as more than 900 Km of blocked cars were counted on our roads.

As shooters arrived during the morning, we verified their shooting equipment. As mentioned in a earlier article, our “Chief of Mission” retired from the Armed Forces on Sep 1st. The newly appointed “Chief of Mission”, Lt Col Vallé Bart, joined us on our annual meeting.

At noon, the pistol team took leave of 1CC David Denis. Denis entered the pistol team in 1999. Soon after that, he made it to the A-Team. Already in 2000, he participated in his first Mil World Championship shooting. During his ten years of military shooting, he accomplished good competition results: i.e. CF 573 Pts (BUL-2002), MRF 569 pts (CZE-2007), CF 577 Pts (Benelux-2009). He was three times Military Champion in service Pistol and won many other medals on various Belgian military & civilian competitions. He participated in four Mil World Championships: TUR (2000), FIN (2001), NOR (2006) & CRO (2009). After the departure of Rik and Paul, we lose yet another good pistol shooter. We’ll sure feel this in the team results, as the newer shooters are not yet on David’s level of performance. We are very grateful for his 10 years of dedication to our sport. He was awarded the silver CISM Star of Sports Merit.

After lunch, the teams accomplishments of 2009, in both rifle & pistol, were reviewed and evaluated. The results of each shooter were reviewed individually by the coaches.

Finally, the program for this year was revealed. 5 international tournaments are scheduled for the men’s teams (CZE, GER, SUI, AUT, BRA). The women have international tournaments in GER (SHP), FIN (both SHR & SHP) and BRA. This year, the shooters are allocated 30 days of Mil training on the shooting ranges of Zwevegem, Beveren-Leie, Florennes, Saive, Mechelen. We hope to shoot a Benelux tournament in the Netherlands, for both rifle & pistol team in June.

The “GO” has been given, the training starts.

New Chief of Mission

It's official now: Lt Kol Vallé Bart is the new Chief of Mission Shooting. Like his predecessor, Lt Kol Vallé is an officer of the Medical Component. He’s the Commanding Officer in CMO 17 at the Naval Base in Zeebrugge.

Paul Strebel, 2. April 1958, bis 26. September 2009.

Eine grosse Trauergemeinde nahm am 16. Oktober in Neuenhof AG Abschied von einem liebenswürdigen, tatkräftigen, kooperativen und vertrauenswürdigen Menschen. Am Europacup Final 300m in Pilsen CZ wurde er seiner Frau Gaby und uns viel zu früh und ganz unerwartet durch ein Herzversagen entrissen.

Paul Strebel war beruflich im Zeughaus Brugg als Waffenmechaniker tätig. Gerade deshalb war er auch in Schützenkreisen sehr bekannt. So war er beispielsweise als ISSF Richter, Range Officer und Schiessleiter am LZ-Cup Final 50m tätig. Verschiedentlich kam er auch als CISM Delegationsleiter in Auslandwettkämpfen zum Einsatz.

Retiring of our “Chief of Mission”.

On 01st of Sep, Lt Col SBH Ottevaere Serge took an early retirement from the Armed Forces. Serge is a life long pistol shooter. After leaving the Mil academy in the eighties, he entered the Mil Pistol Team. Serge did well in the team. Every year he climbed higher in the team ranking. He made it into the team selection for Mil World Championships. In the nineties he became our pistol coach. In 1997, due to his career evolution, he had to leave the team. But he kept following us. Later, in Sep 2005, he came back as “Chief of Mission”.
Unfortunately due to health problems, he could not participate in last Mil World Championship last August in Zagreb. He’s at home recovering from his operation now. But, to beat his disease, he still has a long way to go. Hopefully everything comes out all right.

Initiatie & rekrutering NMP SHP 2009

Op 15 & 16 Sep konden geïnteresseerde Mil zich aanmelden voor een initiatie in sportschieten. 10 Mil (8F + 2 N) hadden zich ingeschreven. Zeven Mil zijn daadwerkelijk opgedaagd voor de initiatie, vijf ervan hebben deelgenomen aan de recruteringproef.
Voor de "Wisselbeker Cdt Grangé" (tevens de recruteringsproef) op 17 Sep, kwamen 14 schutters aan de vuurlijn: vijf kandidaten, twee reeds geïnitieerde Mil uit vorige jaren en 7 schutters van de NMP.
Na het precisiegedeelte stond Rik Rynkens (288 Ptn) op kop, gevolgd door
J-L Marique (284 Ptn) en Daniël Michiels (274 Ptn). Uiteindelijk won Rik weer eens en dit met 567 Ptn. Tweede werd J-L Marique (558 Ptn) en derde Didier Pirotte (547 Ptn). Ook dit jaar weer lagen de punten niet hoog. Zoals elk jaar zitten de schutters meer naar elkaar te kijken & te rekenen, dan zich te concentreren op hun techniek.
Wat de nieuwelingen betreft kunnen we kort zijn: niemand behaalde het vereiste minimum. Alleen de twee reeds eerder geïnitieerde kandidaten
(CLC Van Vliet Luc & CLC Deruytter Brigitte) werden weerhouden voor de ploeg in 2010.
Het verdwijnen van het precisieschieten in de opleiding en de invoering van het gevechts schieten (N)TGS in de eenheden, is waarschijnlijk de oorzaak dat de huidige jonge Mil te weinig basistechniek hebben om te kunnen slagen in de recruteringsproef.

New recruits?

Next week in Florennes, we'll welcome 28 candidates for the team. Among this crowd, there are only 7 candidates for pistol. Thus, our Rifle coach will have his hands full with his 21 candidates.
After a little presentation about the team, we'll initiate them in CISM pistol and rifle shooting during a whole day. On Thursday, they can show us what they are capable of in a Match.
Only the best with sufficient results can enter the team.

Retiring of 1SC Rynkens Hendrik (CISM Rik)

On Aug 22nd, the Pistol Team took officially leave from 1SC Rynkens Hendrik (Rik). Rik started his Mil shooting career 1989. That makes twenty years of military top sport. Since 1989, he participated in every Mil World Championship (MWC) shooting for the Belgian Mil Pistol Team. Except for this year, where he offered his place to younger shooters. Some years ago, Rik was awarded the CISM double Gold Star for his participation in more than 9 CISM MWCs.

Rik shot one of his best performances in CISM during the MWC 2000 in Ankara (TUR). In the individual MRF Match (Final), Rik scored 581 Pts and made ninth place. In his top years Rik totalized averages between 570-575 Pts in CF as well as in MRF.
With his departure, the Pistol Team looses an excellent athlete, friend and fellow shooter. We will miss him in the team, and not only on the firing line.

t'Is weer haast voorbij, ons pistoolseizoen.

Met het WK achter de rug, zit ons Mil seizoen er weer bijna op. Door het vertrek op korte termijn van 1CC Rammelaere en 1SC Rynkens zijn we twee basispionnen armer geworden. De jonge generatie is nog niet bij machte om het gat dat nu geslagen is, direct op te vullen. Dat hebben we gevoeld op het WK. Ons klassement (20ste en 22ste) op wereldvlak heeft een deukje gekregen. Temeer daar de oude garde niet op hun topniveau geschoten heeft. Er heeft dus eigenlijk ook wel meer ingezeten, één à twee plaatsen in de CF en drie à vier plaatsen in de MRF. Spijtig maar helaas.
Aber, niet getreurd, er waren dit seizoen ook vele hoogte punten waar te nemen. Vier bedreven schutters schoten één of meerdere nieuwe persoonlijke records bijeen:
AJM Marique CF 576 en drie maal MRF 571 (beste jaarprestatie);
1CC Hooghe CF 567 en MRF 567;
Adjt Pirotte MRF 564;
1CC David CF 577 en MRF 570.
Onze kerverse nieuweling, 1CC Haenebalcke, maakte een enorme vooruitgang en verbeterde keer op keer zijn beste prestatie in CF en MRF. Na vier maand Trg, tijdens de selecties voor het WK, schoot hij zijn beste scores ooit: CF 557 en MRF 541.
Onze enige dame, OLt Vl Leurs (nieuwelinge), deed het niet slecht op het WK in de CF. Dit was haar eerste wedstrijd ooit met de ploeg. Door haar verplicht opleidingstraject kwam ze, spijtig genoeg, slechts een goede maand voor het WK in aktie op Trg. We konden haar dus niet optimaal voorbereiden in MRF. Maar geen nood, volgend jaar bouwen we verder.

In Sep resten ons nog de initiatie- en recruteringsdagen. Hopelijk kunnen we terug een paar goede pistoolschutters (M/V) oppikken.

Mil WC Shooting - Pistol Results 14 Aug 09

OLt Vl Leurs kon vandaag aan de individuele wedstrijd "25m Pistol" deelnemen. Na een zwakke start in het precisievuur(twee eerste series), kon ze zich herpakken en sleepte nog een 270/300 uit de brand. Het snelvuur ging veel beter, al maakte ze nog enkele grote fouten (276/300). In totaal werd dat dus 546/600. Dat is negen punten beter dan gisteren. Een goede evolutie dus.
De mannen hadden helaas geen punten genoeg om te kunnen deelnemen aan het individuele nummer. Voor hen stond vandaag enkel de training MRF op het programma. Morgen is er de teamwedstrijd MRF voor iedereen.
